2009: First edition of the Foire Internationale du Dessin (FID)

Galleries and Fine Arts students from Paris exhibit together. They show unframed drawings, in portfolios, flat on table tops.

Exhibition “Dessins d’aujourd’hui” at the Rignault museum

In co-operation with the General Council of the Lot Department (south-west of France). Nine European artists participate, amongst whom Josef Hofer (Galerie Christian Berst), Ronald Versloot (Galerie Maurits van de Laar), Thomas Müller (Galerie Vidal Saint-Phalle). Tony Valentine is the guest of honour of the exhibition.

(…) Serghei Litvin Manoliu, who presided in March over
another show, said, ‘‘The golden boy approach to art is
over.’’ His show, the 21st Century International Drawing
Fair, was a crisis-friendly, minimalist affair, offered unframed
works for around €300, displayed on tables in a
bare, loft-like space in the hipMarais district of Paris.
Unlike art produced mainly as a commodity for financial
speculation, Mr. Manoliu said, ‘‘drawing requires
excellent skills.’’
‘‘The art world had lost every criterion of quality,’’ he
said. ‘‘I believe this crisis is a fabulous opportunity for
the arts.’’ (…)
